Backyard on the Boulevard

Our Backyard on the Boulevard project was designed with longevity and livability at its core. Every material was carefully selected to stand up to Vancouver's rain, shifting temperatures, and four seasons, without sacrificing what we love most: warmth, texture, and beauty.

Before the transformation, the yard held incredible potential but saw little use. An outdated hot tub, underutilized green space, and a hosting area that lacked invitation meant the space never quite lived up to what it could be. Now, it’s a true wellness oasis. A sauna that’s part of the daily rhythm, a covered patio that effortlessly hosts everything from family dinners to birthday celebrations, and spaces designed for both gathering and everyday moments. The shift isn’t just aesthetic, it’s experiential.

From a materials standpoint, this project pushed us to think creatively and problem-solve in real time as unexpected challenges surfaced- and oh boy, there were many! One non-negotiable was the outdoor shower; specifically, a perfectly arched opening that became a defining design moment; the star of the show, if you will. As is often the case, the simplest forms require the most precision. Achieving that curve meant meticulous tile layout and careful pattern alignment, followed by a plaster finish that softens the structure and allows it to settle naturally into its surroundings. Another must: incorporating tile from one of our go-to vendors, Ann Sacks. Their materials helped blur the line between indoors and out, bringing a level of refinement and detail that ensures nothing feels overlooked.

This backyard escape is proof that thoughtful outdoor design nudges you to slow down, gather, and enjoy every season, summer through winter. Happy hour ready, anytime!
